One of my best IRL friends has her birthday tomorrow.
So I guess I'm a little late to be starting on a project for her now. But I'm sure she will forgive me :-)
And Sal, if you read any further on this blog, until you receive said present, I shall chop your mouse clicking finger off!
I'm going to do a little something in ribbon embroidery. I've never done ribbon embroidery before, but have spent today having lots of fun finding out how to make some beautiful flowers. I love the internet!
Sally wants purple and royal blue to be in the project (she does know I'm making her something) and I've also selected a colour palette, using a neat tool I found on the Net.
Design decisions coming up in a day or two........
Post Script - I'm not stopping my Historical Sampler, even tho I just did a post about "What drives me mad about it".
Well I am, but only to do this small project.
That entry was to vent about frustration of being locked into decisions that I made when I knew less, and knowing better now (all in the process of learning :-). I made my 'learning project' a bit too big, I think. I haven't used the wrong colours - I just used too many colours (Melinda talks about that in her critique).
I do love my Sampler. I said in the entry I loved some of the motifs. Actually I love all of them, except the big ivory splodgy flower that I had to do to cover up the failed turkey knot waspish bee.
I really appreciate all the comments of support that were left about the blog entry.
If you look at the labels on the left hand side of the blog, you'll see various projects made for friends - Card for Kit, Illuminated N for Nick, Stumpwork Dragonfly for Sally, Stumpwork Poppy for Kit, Writing Paper for Diane. Rust Red Iris and A Bunch of Poppies (Needlepaintings) were for presents too.
Still - it is nice to do something completely different for a few weeks after working on the Sampler for a year or more. And ribbon embroidery couldn't get much different to Elizabethan embroidery and goldwork!
Post-Post Script
I wish I knew who had done that Silk Comparisons Table that I recently posted. I got a lot of comments of appreciation. But I just found it and posted the link.
Someone has put a whole lot of hard work into compiling that table. It's a pity I can't pass the comments onto them. There's nothing I can find in the attributes of the PDF document to give me a clue.
