I love jewellery.
Over the last couple of years, I’ve been swopping over from gothic jewellery to art deco, victorian and costume jewellery (I haunt Etsy)
I do need a jewellery box. Jasper, one of my cats, likes to scoop up one of my pieces in his mouth and take it for a walk, leaving it wherever. (accompanied by my shrieks if I see him do it). It is all currently in a plastic bag on my chiffionier. Not sexy.
Hence wanting :
Why Not Boxes, as recently reviewed by Mary C. at http://www.needlenthread.com/2010/02/why-not-embroider-boxes.html
which I received for my birthday! It hasn’t arrived yet – coming from England.
Here’s a sneak peak of some of my design inspiration :

This gives me the ideas of
- brocade fabric
- maroon velvet, edged (couched?) in a gold metal thread
- velvet topped by maroon cabochons
- gold gimp
- fringe
This is the brocade I want to use on the outside
I have an old maroon silk velvet shirt which I will use to line the inside.
Instead of cabuchons, I’m going to use these maroon pearls inserted into antique gold bead caps (all from Etsy). Pearls are 7-8 mm.
This is a little dingly/dangly that I might use on the front to pull up the top. It depends on which design I end up using : (Etsy again)
is the Etsy search on vintage gold trim. I haven’t bought anything except the brocade and the dingle-dangle yet – I reckon the other things will be around as general supplies, – and just in case I have a design revolution on seeing a box design in the book, I don’t want to mis-spend my money. I also have enough maroon fringe to tie someone up with.
I want little compartments (picture me turning up at the local hardware store with a template and a smile, since I don’t know anyone with a jigsaw, and the box gets you to make the boxes from something called greyboard – I’ve found out that much from my Googling it).

So many choices, so many directions!
While I was just looking over that search I managed to find (a find which was fruitless last week) some tassels for my purple and gold cushion.
http://elmsleyrose.blogspot.com/2010/02/sewing-project-another-cushion.html
I’ve felt it’s a bit naked without tassels. These ones are 4", for $6. They look dark, but the description doesn’t say ‘antiqued gold’ and we all know what it’s like trying to capture the colour of a gold. I really should use proper upholstery tassels, but they cost the earth. These will be fine.
